Beyond The Dead Sea

You're still so miserable
And so surprised,
Traipsing through the world
In search of enlightenment.
You were warned,
Who does find it?
Unless your talking god
But that's not you.
You carry your pain
Like an iron cross and
Wear your prejudice
On your sleeve.
You phone at midnight
Form hotel hallways
Complaining about
The coffee in Paris,
The wine in Rome.
Through rippling summers
Down through Europe
To the beaches of the dead sea,
Where the bronze breasts
Of topless lovers
Scare you to death.
I picture you
In the shadow of the hill
Your pale body afloat
Your face so still
Your eyes so bored
So wildly unimpressed.
